A month and half of practice, and staying in school till 5:30 pm (the last week of dress rehearsals till 6:30 pm) made the Middle School “actors” of The Waterford School ready for their grand opening night on the 14th of November.
The first show was sold out!
People lined up to get the best seats at 6:00 pm for the 7 O’clock show. Mrs. Tanner’s hard work and dedication was reflected from the start till the end. All actors were beaming with confidence and were in full character. Students showed great professionalism and made the audience feel like they were watching a Broadway show. All the actors knew their part very well; from moving the props back and forth, till the change of scenes.
The real magic was happening back stage.
Once all in character ( getting in their costumes and getting the makeup), students started making memories that will last a lifetime. Kids were supporting each other with hugs and pats on the back for their hard work. Card games, Geography games, discussions about the books they were reading, and revising their scripts were some of the activities that were happening in the blue light (it was a blue light so that the light seeping from the back stage would not distract the audience).
The students performed for two more shows on Saturday with the same exact spirit for each one. They were kept well fed from the parent volunteers’ food arrangements.
The students relaxed between the shows; more acting accompanied with laughs and goofiness.
All hard work deserve a party: a potluck with variety of food choices and another session of improv games.
It turned out as a great learning experience for all!
