” Go Pre!”
Steve Roland “Pre” Prefontaine was an American middle and long distance runner. He was from Coos Bay, Oregon.
He held seven records in 2,000 to 10,000 meters. Sadly, he died at a young age of twenty four in a car crash.
From past couple of years, the city of Coos Bay arranges a ” Prefontaine.” It is a walk/run of 2miles, 5K, and 10K.
I wanted to be a part of this local event. ( This is partly true. I was in it for the shirt. You get a shirt when you register.)
I registered last year in the two mile event and told myself that next time I will enter the 5K. Well, I still walked/ran the two mile this year (again, hoping to train and get atleast better at it).
There is a possibly I might get a certificate or something-finished in 1st division.
I enjoy watching the community come together: XC (cross country) team from all over Oregon. Also met a couple from Indiana ( now that’s dedication).
Until next year, I will savor the shirt and feel proud of my baby achievement (or remind myself to train for the next Prefontaine).
